A Box of Happiness

By Rishab Verma

Hello, My lovely friends!!!

How are you! It's been a really long that I haven't posted anything. But you know 'artist's life' man, it's a tough game. Anyway back to the subject. As you know it's only a day left for Christmas and I am in a weird limbo mode. Caught between the threads of unfinished sketches, parties I thought to attend and deadlines of my assignments. What to do and what to start I really couldn't decide!!

Now, if you ask me ...
Hello, doodle master don't you have any friends? Why not hang out with them!!
And you know what that's what my mind says..oh no ..a weird freaky monkey inside my head say. I call it Monkey of Procrastination. And you know, when this monkey speaks up my whole brain abide by only it's insane commands.

Let's hang out with friends, it's a beautiful morning. Let's have some fun in this festival of joy and blah blah blah... it keeps on talking.
So, here's the thing somehow I hijacked my mind for a while from this Monkey of Procrastination and got to self-talk with myself.

Mr. Doodle!!... Look! You have to do your assignment by hook or crook or else you are going to fail miserably in the work you have chosen. Now, if you need to do your job then complete this freaking assignment.

And that's what happened. Our teacher has given us the assignment to make a post for Christmas and I have to make that. First, I thought it would be so cool to make an animated GIF for this assignment. But, you know animation need a hell lot of time and I am really running out of time. So, after giving some more thought on that subject I thought it would be really awesome if I make digital art on this occasion.
It was late at night, probably 2 AM. I made myself a little lemon tea and got back to work. To entertain myself a bit I started to listening to Zara Larson's songs. It's amazing guys! you should check it out.
OK, Doodle master! Back to the topic. I thought to make the concept that will leave a hopeful message because at last Christmas is a festival of happiness and joy. While keeping this concept in my mind I started sketching. And after I was done with my sketching, I started with the color. I kept the background dark and kept my focus mostly on the characters. I sketched Santa and a little girl. Santa was giving that child a present in front of the Christmas tree.
OK OK !! You might be getting confused. Now, allow me to present my concept clear to you.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl and she was an orphan (sorry for the sad start! But you know sometimes these things are true). She was very kind, well behaved and had an amazing heart. But, she hasn't received any presents from anyone. She was not loved by the people of her orphanage so her childhood was really dark. But no matter what her struggles were, she always had a golden heart. And Santa was keeping that record. So in her 8th birthday which was also Christmas Day, Santa came by and gifted her something which was really amazing and might turn her life over. It was a box full of happiness (when I say 'happiness' I don't mean literal because there is no such thing as a box of happiness). So, might be she was blessed with a nice foster family who would love her or something like that. In the end, everything ended well and her life was good.

Well! That jolly old man was definitely a wizard and really adorable. Wish I could get something like that, it's not like I want a foster family, but you know a sack full of Chocolates would be lovely.

So that's what I made. I somehow completed this concept art and showed it to my teacher and my classmates. Everyone praised me and I guess waking up all night was worth it. Finally, I was done with my assignment. And now I guess hanging out with my friends is really my priority.

So, off I go fellas... Enjoy you holiday in the name of sweet baby Jesus. Till then, have a Merry little Christmas from me and all my colleagues of Crimson Creed.
