Brain Concept Art

By Katherine Lightwood

A few days ago one of my classmates showed me a Psychedelic art he created. And I was spellbound to see how he projected his creativity in his artwork. It was an illustration which was showing the significance of women, a journey from cradle to grave and life within it. I kept on wondering, what was his state of mind when he created this deep and thoughtful piece.

As I am struggling to become an artist, I find it very interesting and inspirational how people project their thoughts out of their mind in such an alluring way.
Since, childhood I've always been curious about mind and brain, and the way it works. Tried to study it in both philosophical and biological ways. But always found myself stuck with some unanswered questions.

Speaking of mind, a while ago I came around a book called "Embracing the Wide Sky" by Daniel Tammet. In that book, he vividly described how his mind worked in a very unusual way. He is an autistic savant who has a brain condition called Synesthesia, where he sees numbers as some well-defined shapes. And that's how he recited the number Pi (3.14...) up to twenty thousand decimal places without a break.

According to him, he was describing a very exquisite landscape in the language of numbers. Like him, there were many people in the world e.g Kim Peek who was the main inspiration behind the movie "Rain Man" featuring Dustin Hoffman and famous musician Beethoven, whose music we still admire.
These people lead me to think more deeply about the mind and the brain even though their story did answer some of my questions.

Recently, I was struggling very hard to get some inspiration for creating some artworks. But I was failing miserably. The darkness in my mind was clouding my thought process. And as my days were passing unproductively, I could clearly see my agitation was taking a dark turn.

I read books, researched things I was passionate about only to get a slight spark of inspiration. But, unfortunately, everything was in vain.

Next day, I went to my instituteas usual, thought my day would slip away from my grip as every time it did. But that day was an amazing twist of fate. As I was sitting alone in my class scribbling some abstract shapes, suddenly a fellow classmate of mine came and dragged me to our teacher's cabin.

Clumsily, somehow I balanced myself we both went up to him. Actually, we had some doubts related to our software Adobe Photoshop, so we thought to clarify that.

I was very skeptical, If I  should discuss my own issue, but later I realized it might be a bad idea. Better not to validate my stupidity in front of my teacher and my classmates.
After we were done discussing the software issue we had, we thought to leave the class. With a heavy heart and lazy pace, we started to walk out.

And at that meantime, our teacher called us.

" Hey, guys. I have some ideas for you. I think you should work on that."

A huge wave of relief stuck me as if someone has lifted a heavy rock from my shoulders which I didn't realize was there.
And YES, I was that desperate for inspiration.
As we quickly got back into our chair, he started to explain his concept. It was so dark and brutal and yet so hauntingly beautiful that I could hardly explain it in words. I thought illustrating that would do justice, but I was unsure if my feeble hands could portray that.

Even though all these, I thought to give it a try. So, I went home and got back to work as quickly as I could.
I used Adobe Photoshop to make that illustration possible.

I had spent at least a week on that painting developing every detail that I could possibly make.

This concept he described reminded me of the famous painter Salvador Dali's artworks.
And all I understood that, was behind every beauty there is pain and suffering and this leads to the sparks of creativity in the human mind.
After a week I was done with that concept art, I showed it to my teacher, he did suggest a few corrections and I fixed it quickly.

And Ladies and Gentlemen, that's how I finished Brain concept art.

I guess now it's time for me to sign out from CRIMSON CREED.
