Motives are much worthy than outcomes
By Katherine Lightwood
Have you ever got into any situation, when you are doing something very "bad" in other's point of view but for a very good reason?
And if the answer is YES, would you consider yourself as a "bad person".
Please think about it and ask yourself?
What do you think the definition of good is?
You are obeying some stereotypical rules. Your life runs according to some preconceived notions of "society".
NO, my friend, the universe doesn't follow these "societal norms" nor does nature. In fact, what we call "bad" or "good" has no definition. Everything depends on our point of view.
A very interesting movie I watched recently "Now you see me 2". As I was a big fan of its first part, I was keenly waiting for its next part to come out.
The whole movie was very amazing, but the last part grabbed my whole attention. Especially, the last scene where Morgan Freeman's monologue ended, when he said.
"Seeing is believing, and truth only lies in our point of view".
And up to this day, that dialogues echo's into my mind. It's an innate human characteristic that, we start to believe what we see. We make some preconceived notions about things what we see in front of us, without knowing it's the true origin and background story.
A Persian poet Rumi said something which is quite relatable with to this situation,
"There is a field beyond every good doing and bad doing and I will meet you there."
A funny incident happened with me years ago, when I was doing my bachelors.
We were given an assignment on "how hormones affect our behaviors and physiology". I choose hypothalamus hormone as my topic. As I was researching about it as usual, when I came across a documentary about a drug addict. To get more insights, I started watching it while making some notes. That time, some guests were staying with us in our apartment. And, suddenly one of them entered into my room. I was watching a quite controversial scene where the addict was demonstrating how he used his drugs. After hearing a sudden bang of the door opening, I panicked and quickly paused my screen. The frame paused in a very awkward moment.
Embarrassed and red-faced the guest dashed out from my room and went straight to my mother and explained everything she saw. I got very anxious and so did my mother.
That time I was perceived as a "bad person". But now sometimes when I think about that situation, I ask myself, was I doing anything wrong or the situation happened at odd timing.
That guest still has a preconceived notion about "immoral character "of mine.
And isn't that something we all do?
If a colleague, classmate or anyone who we don't know properly is a bit unusual, we quickly start to build our own notions about them. We hurt them, we break them in ways we never thought could be possible without realizing.
And "our judgment" is only because of some stereotypical point of view which we consider is "good".
We don't need to understand everyone's point of view. It's enough if we could be a bit compassionate towards everyone and not judge them by their outer selves.
We should remind ourselves that everyone has their own point of view, and it is the truth for them.
Everything is relative in this universe. Time, space and the laws which we think governs us.
Even the universe which we live in is not the ultimate one. There are multiple universes which are called multiverses which means, parallel universes exist in the same place and at the same time made up of the same kind of matter.
Although it is still a theory, some scientist believes it's true. And recently, some data from Planck's satellite was showing some of that evidence. Research is still going on in that field.
Now, this theory is true or not doesn't matter.
The main reason for this article of mine was only to make ourselves realize that motives worth more than results. And we should focus on reasons for our actions, why we are doing whatever we are doing not the outcome of it.
Hope my message is clear to you all. And hope we can make this world a much better place.
