Learning from Pain

By Katherine Lightwood

So, today I would like to talk to you about pain. Not just physical pain but also emotional pain. I am very interested to learn how we think about the pain. And the thing is I think that we have been sold a lie.

I have seen many things in life, faced many strange incidents and encounters, although not many. and those lessons made me realize the distinction between pain and pleasure is not as obvious as it may at first seems. We are told that a pain-free life, a happy life is a good life yet on the flip side even common in everyday mild experiences of pain and sadness are simply pathological as if it needs to be eradicated. From this perspective, pain is simply something that gets in our way of being happy in life. But ask yourself, is it the right way of looking at pain? Could this be leading to other sorts of problems?

In my life's strange journey till now, I've seen a lot of successful peoples and I was always been very very curious to know the common denominating factor that propelled them to climb the ladder of success. They all came from different background and some of them have to make it from extremely unfavorable conditions yet they all managed to change their life. And after researching and lots of researching about them and my own life I assessed something. And let me tell you my friends, it's not very fun to hear. The success comes from the experience of pain.

I will not consider myself to be successful nor I have ever seen any face of success, but I am on a journey towards my own success. And in this journey, I am learning a lot. Now, pain is a very prominent part of my life, can't tell you how exactly but it is. And that pain propelling my growth, it is making me think quicker, plan more efficiently teaching me to be faster. And what I've seen in successful people is that they literally work their pain away.

Yesterday, I was standing in my institute's balcony with few of my colleagues, my manager, and my teacher.  While my manager was describing a major surgery he had gone through to my teacher, although I heard about that incident many times, and whenever I hear it just sends a chill down my spine. I just stood flabbergasted after hearing about his tolerance level. Then my teacher shared his story about how he got stabbed by an iron rod by accident while doing an exercise. I tried to imagine their pain, how it might have felt. And that thought was making me dizzy.

After, hearing both of their stories I was blown away. After we came into the class and everyone was having fun, I just keep thinking, how could this be possible. How can anyone be that strong? What is the core difference between me and them? Or I am just an inferior species and they are some kind of advance breed? And like always I don't have answers for that.

So, that was my thought of the day. To see more posts like this make sure to visit our main page. And do not forget to visit our institute's page to know more about graphic design, 3D, animation courses and other awesome stuff. Till then good day to you.
