My Love for 'Jane Eyre'
By Katherine Lightwood
“I have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you. And if you were to leave I'm afraid that cord of communion would snap. And I have a notion that I'd take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, you'd forget me.”
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
This line from the book ‘Jane Eyre’ has struck a chord in my heart in such a way that I can’t ever put this in words. And that’s the reason I’ve been in hopelessly love with Charlotte Bronte’s work. She simply speaks my language, I mean not literally but metaphorically I would rather say.
I started reading Jane Eyre at the end of last year only. And I found that I can relate to her in so many ways. And if she was a real person then she would be my best friend. What a fascinating character she is. Intense, passionate, kind hearted and a dark soul of course. And if you ask me why she is relatable, it’s because 99% of her time she was being misunderstood.
Jane Eyre is one of the classic novels. And this reading not only radically changed my attitude towards life in general but marking a real personal growth for me. And now, when I write some of my deepest confessions and my inner monologue, it comes out as a Victorian voice. Now, let me tell you this, if you are a penniless orphan, thrust on the questionable charity of the extended relations who hate you, then this book is for you.
Although my situation is so much different from this, very oddly I can relate myself to the main character. Her straightforward dialogues, her feminist mindset even in that Victorian era and her occasional inability to express her true desires is something I see in myself too.
And also if you have a deep and abiding love of English literature and you just want to encounter one of the most extraordinary and exquisite narrative voices in mid-Victorian literary history then this book is definitely for you.
And the way Charlotte Bronte describes love in the book is just mind-blowing. I haven’t read the whole book yet, but the relationship between them is complicated. The ‘love’ that Jane felt for Mr. Rochester has just blown my mind. It was dark, confusing, frustrating and hopelessly romantic.
The way Charlotte Bronte has written about them was so moving for me that whenever I read these parts, a shiver just runs down my spine. I sometimes wonder how someone’s writing can affect anyone that much or I am the weird one. Anyways I am ok with both options. This era seems quite mundane to me sometimes, where there is lack of respect and compassion but we need to focus on the good part.
So, that was my thought of the day. To see more posts like this make sure to visit our main page. And Do not forget to visit our institute's page to know more about graphic design, 3D, animation courses and other awesome stuff. Till then good day to you.
